There were 5,019 foreclosures filed in South Florida in December, up from from 4,499 foreclosures last month and up 40.7 percent from the same month a year ago, according to Condo Vultures. Miami-Dade County lead the region for the fourth consecutive month with 2,271 foreclosures. Broward County and Palm Beach County posted 1,541 and 1,207 foreclosures in December respectively, representing a 14.7 percent and 29 percent increase year-over-year.
Overall, 50,326 foreclosures were filed in South Florida through the end of December, a 47.6 percent increase from the same period a year ago. Broward accounts for 40.39 percent of all those foreclosure year to date, while Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties split the remaining foreclosures at 23.8 and 35.7 percent, respectively. —Christopher Cameron
