The Doral-based Florida Grand Opera has entered a contract to sell its downtown Miami property once slated to be its headquarters, Miami Today reported. The opera was asking $9.5 million for the nearly one-acre site. In January 2012, the opera dropped plans to build a new headquarters on the 46,000-square-foot plot outside downtown Miami — located at 245 NE 14th Street. That development would have featured a residential tower and ground floor of retail.
The buyer is reported to be “a successful local developer,” although no further information has been revealed, either about the developer’s identity or their plans for the land.
“We had in the past plans to develop it as a headquarters for the opera but we are no longer proceeding with those plans,” William Hill, opera board chairman, said. For now the opera will remain at 8390 NW 25th Street. [Miami Today] —Christopher Cameron
