A hotly-disputed piece of land in Pembroke Pines will become a school and residential development, the Sun Sentinel reported.
The 43-acre property, at Griffin Road and east of Southwest 208th Avenue, was sold to Discovery Schools, a charter school company, for $10.14 million, to build a three-story charter school and a 43-unit residential development with private access, the Sentinel said.
The sale should end a protracted dispute between Pembroke Pines and neighboring Southwest Ranches over traffic, the paper said. The latter had blocked northbound traffic off from the former last year, saying traffic heading to Pembroke Pines was using Southwest Ranches as a “cut-through,” according to Southwest Ranches Mayor Jeff Nelson.
Pembroke Pines Commissioner Iris Siple assured residents that they would have access to the northbound main road through the new development. [Sun Sentinel] –Guelda Voien
