The Bass Museum of Art plans to build an extra wing with a $7.5 million grant from Miami Beach.

The renovation, timed with the museum’s anniversary, next year will add two new classrooms next to the Lindemann Family Creativity Center and “47 percent more” exhibition space. The new wing will allow for simultaneous scheduling of classes and events outside of normal museum hours, museum directors told the South Florida Business Journal.

The museum, located at 2100 Collins Avenue, added 20,000 square feet in 2001.

Among the museum’s collection is the dining room from the late legendary architect Morris Lapidus’ apartment in Belle Isle’s Terrace Towers, as previously reported. [South Florida Business Journal]Mark Maurer
