The German discount grocery chain is scheduled to open its first Fort Lauderdale grocery at 1707 East Commercial Boulevard on Dec. 19, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Aldi has seven additional locations in Broward and Palm Beach. It first came to South Florida in 2010.

Known for its unusual policies, from requiring a 25-cent refundable deposit to use a shopping cart to not accepting credit cards or checks, Aldi has more than 1,200 stores throughout the U.S. It is not the only prominent grocer ramping up in South Florida. Trader Joe’s intends to open at least five groceries in Broward and Palm Beach counties in 2014. [Sun-Sentinel]Eric Kalis
