Miami-Dade Property Appraiser Carlos Lopez-Cantera is Florida’s new lieutenant governor.
Gov. Rick Scott selected Lopez-Cantera to become the state’s first Hispanic lieutenant governor and first individual from Miami-Dade to hold the position since 1968, the Miami Herald reported. Prior lieutenant government Jennifer Carroll resigned last March.
Lopez-Cantera served in the Florida House for eight years before being elected as property appraiser in August 2012. He plans to spend the new two weeks finishing up his stint in Miami-Dade before taking over as lieutenant governor on Feb. 3. [Miami Herald] — Eric Kalis
