Overtown affordable housing projects in the works
Four new affordable-housing projects in Overtown – the impoverished, predominantly black section of Miami – are inches away from acquiring construction funding.
Developer Housing Trust Group wants to build an 84-unit, $20 million project called Courtside Family Apartments at Northwest 14th and Northwest 16th streets near Northwest Third Avenue. Island Living aims to a 75 affordable-housing units to 1201 Northwest Third Avenue. Lyric Place is looking to add 164 units to Northwest Second Avenue between Northwest 8th and 10th streets.
“These are areas where we see a need for affordable housing to address slum and blight, so we incentivized developers to come into our area to come in and develop,” Clarence Woods of the Southeast Overtown Park West Community Redevelopment Agency told the Daily Business Review.
