Wellington Presbyterian church to sell site, close school

Wellington Presbyterian Church announced this week that the Wellington Christian School will be closing and put up for sale along with the church.

The private school has been located at 1000 Wellington Trace for about 30 years. The congregation said last month it would shutter the high school next year if it could not raise $1.6 million. At the time, the plan was to still offer kindergarten through eighth grade.

The church and school would aim to relocate to an as-yet-undetermined location.

“We do not believe that it is financially feasible to continue to operate the ministry of the school,” church officials said in a statement. “It is very likely that there will continue to be major budget shortfalls in the school operations in the coming years, and the church would need to provide financial support far beyond our ability.” [Palm Beach Post] — Mark Maurer
