The fate of Related Group’s proposed Icon Palm Beach development is set to be determined tonight by West Palm Beach commissioners.

A vote on the 1,059-unit condo project at Rybovich Marina, owned by the Huizenga family, is expected during tonight’s commission meeting, the Palm Beach Post reported. Related and Huizenga are partnering on the proposed development on two adjacent sites along North Flagler Drive. Arquitectonica designed the six-tower project.

Icon Palm Beach proponents say the development would bring affluent condo buyers and retailer interest to the crime-ridden Broadway strip in West Palm Beach. Opponents note the area already has a population of 10,000 and at least 6,000 residences and would not be revitalized by the addition of 1,000 condos. [Palm Beach Post]Eric Kalis
