Whitman Family Development is reportedly striking a deal with a luxury retail store to anchor its Brickell City Centre.

Swire Properties’ $1 billion development, a major installment in the area’s recent construction surge, will feature a high-end brand like Harrods, Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue at 700 Brickell Avenue, according to president and chief executive Matthew Lazenby.

“The Brickell area is clearly ripe for a department store,” Lazenby told Miami Today. Another high-end retailer may anchor the northern end of the complex — Lazenby is considering the likes of Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor or Nordstrom, the article said.

The planned three-story “open-air” shopping mall, slated for completion in 2015 or 2016, will have space for 100,000-square-foot department stores and a total of 625,000 square feet of retail. City Centre will also reportedly offer a hotel, office and residential space, parking and a wellness center, as previously reported. [Miami Today] — Angela Hunt
