A long-awaited South Beach hotel renovation is getting closer to completion.

Operator Sixty Hotels expects to finish work on the former Continental Oceanfront South Beach Hotel by the end of 2014. The company is repositioning the 251-room hotel at 1825 Collins Avenue as the Nautilus South Beach. The hotel was originally called the Nautilus when it opened in 1950.

The Nautilus is the fifth hotel in Sixty’s portfolio, according to the Miami Herald. In addition to the hotel rooms, the Nautilus is expected to include 29 suites and two penthouses; a new restaurant, lobby lounge, event space and pool bar.

“I think it’s safe to say it’s a gut renovation of our structure and it’s a full South Beach luxury repositioning,” Sixty co-founder Jason Pomeranc told the Herald. [Miami Herald]Eric Kalis
