Employment across South Florida is chasing record highs, especially in the construction industry.

Payroll jobs in Miami-Dade were up 35,000 from last year, with about 3,500 new construction jobs added in the county, according to the South Florida Business Journal.

In Broward, the construction ranks grew by 2,400, with the total number of payroll jobs up 25,000 from the prior year.

The jobless rate in Miami-Dade’s also dropped from 7.3% in March to 7.2% in April, as the labor pool shrank faster than employment did in the county, according to the Business Journal. All told, 2,000 fewer people per million described themselves as employed. [SFBJ]Christopher Cameron
