A Fort Lauderdale hotel that previously catered to gay male travelers is being repositioned as a family-friendly property following a renovation.
The former Retro Schubert Hotel at 855 Northeast 20th Avenue is slated to reopen as the Victoria Park Hotel on Friday, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. Ownership spent $300,000 to upgrade the 31-room hotel. It expects occupancy to triple after the rebranding.
Victoria Park was originally built in 1953. Eight of the suites were revamped with the 1950s in mind, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
We’ve been pushing it for two years now,” general manager Paul Guralchuk said. “We want the community to embrace our property like it’s an extension of their home if they have visiting guests who need a place to stay.” [Sun-Sentinel] — Eric Kalis
