The former Crown Miami Beach Apartments is slated to reopen as a hotel called Thompson Miami Beach by the end of 2014.
Extensive renovations are planned for the 380-room complex at 4041 Collins Avenue. The property owner, a group led by Geolo Capital, expects to spend up to $75 million to upgrade the property. It paid $100 million for the site in 2012.
The hotel would be the first under the Thompson brand in South Florida, according to the Miami Herald. Prominent chef Michelle Bernstein plans to open her first Miami Beach restaurant at the hotel. Other amenities include a second restaurant, two pools, a spa and about 47,000 square feet of meeting and event facilities.
