Miami Beach officials are mulling plans for a new hotel at the city’s convention center.
City Manager Jimmy Morales is slated to talk about the concept with Miami Beach commissioners on Wednesday. The group must pick a development site for the 800-room hotel, which would include 800 parking spaces and 70,000 square feet of meeting space. One option for a hotel location is a property behind the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater.
Two other potential sites are in play. The commission could opt to build a hotel at City Hall, but the municipal venue would have to be replaced, according to the South Florida Business Journal. Another possibility is at the city’s 17th Street parking garage. [South Florida Business Journal] — Eric Kalis
