Miami Beach officials are focusing on a property behind the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater as the potential home of a new hotel for the city’s convention center.
City commissioners directed staff to evaluate the site for the development of an 800-room hotel with 800 parking spaces and 70,000 square feet of meeting space. The commission was presented with three additional options during Wednesday’s meeting. Other possibilities were redeveloping City Hall, replacing the 17th Street Garage near Lincoln Road with the hotel or building it on a parking lot in front of the convention center.
The next steps for the city include examining how to structure an agreement to construct the hotel on publicly owned land, according to the Miami Herald. [Miami Herald] — Eric Kalis
