Miami Beach hotel gets new name, renovations
The former Hotel Riu Florida Beach is slated to reopen with a new name following a $15 million renovation program.
On Nov. 1, the 3101 Collins Avenue hotel will begin operating as Hotel Riu Plaza Miami Beach. The 284-room hotel would become Spain-based Riu Hotels & Resorts’ first Riu Plaza brand in the U.S. Planned upgrades include a new restaurant, a redesign of all 284 rooms, a food station in the lobby and swimming pool bar.
Riu is building a similar hotel in New York, according to the South Florida Business Journal. Riu Plaza New York Times Square is scheduled to open by the end of 2015. [SFBJ] — Eric Kalis
