Faena to determine preservation of Cubist mosaic on Miami Beach

The fate of a Cubist mosaic from the 1950s lies in the hands of Faena.

The mosaic is sitting in the middle of Faena’s Miami Beach project, which includes a retail center and a renovated Saxony Hotel.

The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board “strongly encourage preservation/retention of the artwork, either on-­site or perhaps the piece could be donated to a local museum,” Miami New Times reported.

Faena’s lobbyist and former Beach Mayor Neisen Kasdin said he’ll study the issue.

“We’re going to take a look at conserving it,” Kasdin told the New Times. “We’re building this project to the highest standards on the Beach in terms of design and quality and an infusion of art.”  [Miami New Times] — Katherine Kallergis
