Bjarke Ingels may replace Norman Foster at 2 WTC

From the New York website: Larry Silverstein and Rupert Murdoch’s media companies 21st Century Fox and News Corp are talking to Danish starchitect Bjarke Ingels to potentially design the final tower at the World Trade Center.

Ingels, who designed a portion of the Marina Lofts in Fort Lauderdale, would replace the British architect Norman Foster. Foster first designed 2 World Trade Center a decade ago, the Wall Street Journal reported.

While Ingels would seriously alter the original designs, the Danish starchitect‘s design would keep the height — roughly 1,270 feet — and size — roughly 3 million square feet — the same as the original plans, according to the Journal. The companies are considering moving to the new, 88-story property and co-developing it with Silverstein’s Silverstein Properties.

“Architecture at its best is really the power to make the world a little more like our dreams,” Ingels said at a conference last year, according to the newspaper. “You take something that is a wild idea, like pure fiction, and you suddenly change it into hard fact.”
