The CEO of the gutted Dania Jai-Alai fronton and casino in Dania Beach said it will reopen January under a new name after renovation work is completed.

Scott Savin, CEO of Dania Entertainment, said rainy weather had slowed the renovation work which had been scheduled for completion in December.

Savin also serves as chief operating officer of Magic City Casino, owner of the former Flagler Dog Track in Miami, which last year acquired 25 percent of the old Dania Jai-Ali fronton  at 301 East Dania Boulevard.

The majority owner of the fronton is an Argentine investor group that bought the property in 2013,  then opened a quarter of the building with slot machines and poker tables before closing it late last year for renovation work.

When it reopens, Savin said, action at the jai-alai fronton will be televised on large screens in the casino portion of the property, which will have about 900 slot machines and 30 poker tables. [Sun-Sentinel]— Mike Seemuth
