During a pause in the action at The Real Deal’s South Florida Forum & Showcase last week, TRD South Florida’s Managing Editor Ina Cordle caught up with Ryan Serhant of “Million Dollar Listing: New York” to talk about why he’s courting Miami.
“There’s such opportunity for development in Miami, and that’s what I like,” Serhant said. “I don’t even think Miami has seen an inch of what it can really be.”
Serhant is no stranger to making moves in a market: a September investigation by TRD found he was responsible for more than half of the listing volume at his firm Nest Seekers International in New York.
He’s established a team of four people in Miami, he said, and is working on several “big” listings at new developments like Aria on the Bay, Muse and Echo Brickell.
Serhant was one of five New York power brokers and developers who spoke at TRD’s “New to Miami” panel at the showcase last week. The panelists touched on topics like Miami’s growth as a luxury real estate capital, the differences in culture between their hometown up north and the sunny city down here, and how they’re working to forge a real partnership between the two cities.
TRD’s showcase was held on October 15th at the Moore Building in Miami’s Design District. More than 4,000 real estate wheelers and dealers packed the building to check out South Florida’s latest developments and schmooze with other industry insiders. Including the “New to Miami” discussion, the event hosted three panels: “Miami development panel,” where top developers gave their unfiltered opinions on the market’s future, and “surveying Miami’s top neighborhoods,” which saw key players talk about how they helped transform some of the city’s hottest districts.
