“Person of the Year” Angela Merkel isn’t exactly living large in the Bundeskanzleramt

You thought the White House or 10 Downing Street were impressive? Well check out the Bundeskanzleramt, where German Chancellor and Time Person of the Year Angela Merkel takes care of business.

The 129,166-square-foot German Chancellery, or Bundeskanzleramt, contains government offices along with an official apartment for the Chancellor on the top floor, according to Curbed. Compare that to the White House, which weighs in at around 55,000 square feet.

Located along the river Spree in Berlin near the Reichstag, the Chancellery consists of three buildings: a central main office and two smaller buildings for administrative staff. And while that seems pretty huge, the Chancellor’s apartment was given just 200 square meters (or roughly 2,100 square feet).
