Coconut Grove developer opens Tampa-area rentals

Coconut Grove-based Housing Trust Group (HTG) held a grand opening ceremony Friday for Whispering Palms Apartments, a 63-unit affordable housing development in the Tampa area.

The new rental property in Largo at 601 16 Avenue Southeast is 100 percent leased. It has a mix of two- and three-bedroom townhome and garden-style apartments, including four handicapped-accessible units.

Community amenities include a clubhouse, pool, fitness center, playground and computer lab. Residents also have access to such on-site programs as after-school children’s programs, literacy training, employment assistance and skills workshops.

The monthly rental rate for a two-bedroom apartment at Whispering Palms is $682, and three-bedroom apartment rents range up to $780. All units include a full-sized washer and dryer.

As an affordable housing development, units at Whispering Palms are reserved for people earning 60 percent or less of the area median income.
