Construction of a $186 million expansion of the 61.5-mile SunRail commuter train service in the Orlando area is under way and scheduled for completion in early 2018. The 17-mile expansion will add four SunRail train stations south of Orlando: one in southern Orange County, and three farther south in neighboring Osceola County.
The program manager of SunRail, Tawny Olores, told the Orlando Sentinel she was optimistic about a renewed application for federal funding for a northern expansion of the commuter rail service to Volusia County. A SunRail application for $35 million of federal funding for the planned northern expansion was denied in October. [Orlando Sentinel] — Mike Seemuth
