City commissioners approved plans to develop a 101-room Marriott-Fairfield hotel next to a DoubleTree hotel on Hillsboro Technology Drive.
The city commission took action to increase from 10,000 square feet to 15,000 square feet the permissible amount of commercial space on the 74-acre site of the planned Fairfield Inn & Suites, part of the Marriott family of hotel brands.
It is the third 100-plus-room project in the hotel development pipeline in Deerfield Beach.
Also in development are a 119-room Woodspring Suites hotel and a 134-room hotel at The Cove, a Deerfield Beach shopping center.
Malcolm Butters, president of Butters Construction and Development, said the developer of the Fairfield Inn & Suites hotel plans to invest about $15 million in the project.
Butters plans to sell the 74-acre site where the Fairfield Inn would be built next-door to the DoubleTree Hotel at 50 Hillsboro Technology Drive.
Butters plans to sell the land in June to the developer, a Cincinnati businessman named Sanjay Patel. [Sun-Sentinel] — Mike Seemuth
