A Miami-based company proposed that the City of Lakeland rezone a 104-acre site to allow the company to build warehouse space there.
Miami-based Brown Development Group, led by managing directors David Brown and Victor Brown, has been the majority owner of the 104-acre site since 2006.
Swelling demand from e-commerce companies is driving Brown’s interest in Lakeland as a fulfillment-oriented midpoint between Tampa and Orlando, according to Lakeland attorney Tim Campbell, who is representing BDG in its rezoning request to the Lakeland City Commission.
Brown Development has submitted alternate site plans to the city showing a large warehouse as well as two smaller warehouses on the site.
The proposed rezoning also would allow the Miami-based company to build hotels, office space, medical buildings and research facilities. [Lakeland Ledger] — Mike Seemuth
