Updated 3:40 p.m., Aug. 11: The former No. 1 tennis player in the world just sold a Cooper City charter school he and investor Bobby Turner developed for $20 million.
Broward County records show an affiliate of the Turner Agassi Charter School Facility Fund sold the Franklin Academy in Cooper City to the Fort Lauderdale-based Florida Charter Foundation, which manages a network of 12 schools in the state.
Andre Agassi and Bobby Turner have developed a number of charter schools around the country. The Cooper City school, at 6301 South Flamingo Road, opened in 2013. The K-8 school hold about 1,300 students and 80 classrooms in an 85,000-square-foot facility.
The charter school fund paid $3.5 million for the 9.24-acre development site in 2012, and also developed a Franklin Academy in Boynton Beach through a similar partnership. The Turner-Agassi fund had plans to develop up to 130 schools across the country, coming out to about $1 billion in planned investment.
Turner is CEO of Turner Impact Capital, an investment fund based in Los Angeles. He was also a founding partner at the hedge fund Canyon Capital Realty Advisors.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Bobby Turner as Bobby Brown. Turner partnered with Agassi on the charter schools.
