Publix promotes McGarrity to facilities vice president

Publix Super Markets promoted Bob McGarrity to vice president of facilities, effective January 1. McGarrity, 55, will succeed Dave Duncan, 63, who will retire as vice president of facilities on December 31 after 42 years with Publix.

McGarrity, who joined Publix in 2012, will oversee design, construction and maintenance of grocery stores and equipment in his new position at Publix. The supermarket operator has 1,127 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and the Carolinas.

He has more than 30 years of experience in leading in commercial construction projects, real estate development and building management. Prior to his tenure with Lakeland-based Publix, he managed facilities and construction work as an officer in the Civil Engineer Corps in the U.S. Navy. McGarrity also served as a senior development officer of AG Armstrong Development and Regency Centers.

Publix also announced the promotion of Jeff Chamberlain to senior vice president of real estate, effective January 1. Chamberlain, 60, started his career at Publix as a part-time front service clerk in Satellite Beach.
