Resorts World Miami’s $200M redevelopment would include residential

New details have emerged of Resorts World Miami’s proposed redevelopment of a bus terminal in the Arts & Entertainment District of Miami.

Resorts World, a subsidiary of the Malaysian conglomerate the Genting Group, submitted plans for its mixed-use project in response to a county request for proposals to redevelop the bus terminal and upgrade an adjacent Metromover station.

A 36-story tower, which would top the terminal station, would include 20 floors of residential units averaging 918 square feet and a 300-room hotel with rooms averaging 350 square feet, the Next Miami reported. The tower would front a “grand public plaza” and the Boulevard Shops, which are being renovated, would also be part of the project.

In all, the development would cost about $200 million, according to the Next Miami. Arquitectonica is the architect.

Genting acquired the former Miami Herald site in 2011 for $236 million, but its efforts by Genting to build a casino resort on the bayfront property have been stymied for years. The company has lobbied unsuccessfully for a state a law that would allow the casino development.

Resorts World is still reportedly planning to build a mixed-use project on the former Herald land, which would include two residential towers, a hotel, retail and parking, and an 800-foot baywalk. [The Next Miami] – Katherine Kallergis
