A Delray Beach-based developer is planning to renovate, expand and reopen the historic Gulfstream Hotel in Lake Worth.

The shuttered hotel at 1 Lake Avenue, which opened in 1924, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1983.

Delray-based Hudson Holdings expects to begin construction of a 12-month renovation and expansion of the hotel property in fall. The estimated cost of the two-phase project is $80 million.

The initial, $35 million phase would turn the property’s original structure into a 90-room hotel with such amenities as a ground-floor restaurant and a rooftop bar and lounge.

The second phase would cost an estimated $5 million and would include construction of an annex to the original structure with an additional 90 guest rooms and a three-level parking garage with 200 spaces.

The Gulfstream Hotel project got recently got a legal green light when a court rejected an appeal by some residents of Lake Worth who opposed the 65-foot height of the planned hotel annex. [Sun Sentinel]Mike Seemuth
