Miami-based Lennar Corp. wants to build 385 single-family homes – 152 fewer than originally planned – on a site in Miramar owned by Univision, the Spanish language broadcasting company.

Lennar initially planned to build 537 homes on the site at the southwest corner of Southwest 172 Avenue and Bass Creek Road in Miramar.

Lennar has a contract to buy the 1,120-acre site from Univision, which has radio towers on the land, now zoned for utilities.

The project is pending a vote by the Miramar City Commission and the Broward County Commission.

Miramar’s Planning and Zoning Board recommended conditional approval of the unnamed Lennar development after reviewing the company’s application on May 9. The conditions include protection of trees and wildlife on the land.

Lennar would extend Bass Creek Road from Southwest 172 Avenue to Southwest 184 Avenue to mitigate additional traffic stemming from the 385-home development. A traffic study shows the development would generate 3,095 daily trips.

Lennar also would construct a two-lane roundabout at the intersection of Southwest 172 Avenue and Bass Creek Road.

Carlos Gonzalez, president of the Southeast Florida division of Lennar, told the South Florida Business Journal that the Miramar development would have homes ranging in size from 2,700 square feet to 4,300 square feet. Community amenities would include lakes and a swimming pool, clubhouse, fitness center and playground. [South Florida Business Journal] – Mike Seemuth
