Zimmermann also plans to open its fourth store in New York later this summer in the Meatpacking District, following retail shops in Soho, Manhasset and East Hampton. Zimmermann’s only other store in the United States is in Los Angeles, according to its website. Its boutiques are designed by Australian architect Don McQualter of Studio McQualter.

Bal Harbour Shops, owned by the Whitman family, scored approval in May to nearly double in size, after more than a year of contentious politics, lawsuits and opposition. The $400 million expansion could last as long as eight years and will add more than 340,000 square feet to the complex’s current 511,000 square feet, an increase of 74 percent.

The new expansion plans include the first Barneys New York flagship store in the Southeastern United States and new luxury boutiques and restaurants for the upscale shopping center. Bernard Zyscovich of Zyscovich Architects is the lead designer on the project.
