A nine-acre estate on Merritt Island sold for $9 million, shattering the old record for the highest sale price for a residential property in Brevard County.

The $4 million sale of the Cocoa Beach estate of the late Al Neuharth in 2015 set the previous record price for a residential property sale in Brevard County.

The main house at the Merritt Island estate spans more than 17,000 square feet and has five bedrooms, eight bathrooms and a half bathroom. The property comes with a guest house and a 3,000-square-foot garage.

The $9 million sale price for the Merritt Island property at 6585 South Tropical Trail was $1.75 million below the asking price.

The property attracted a buyer in less than 12 months, according to Stephanie Moss Dandridge, an agent of Dale Sorenson Real Estate who represented the sellers, John and Sybil Dean.

Dandridge also told Florida Today that finding a buyer for a comparable property could take as long as three years.
