Mixed-use project with micro units proposed for Oakland Park

Two developers want to build an apartment tower with micro units on land surrounding the historic Kenann Building in Oakland Park.

Dan Deitchman of the Pennsylvania real estate firm BrickBox Development and investor Amos Chess filed plans to develop Round Corner, a mixed-use project with a 12-story apartment tower.

The 274-unit apartment building would include micro units, according to the South Florida Business Journal. The project would also feature about 20,100 square feet of commercial space and parking garages. The development would wrap around the two existing buildings at 3101 and 3201 North Federal Highway.

The developers would renovate the cylindrical 74,000-square-foot building as part of the project. It was built in 1968 by developer Kenneth G. Burnstein and once housed the Chateau Madrid nightclub and restaurant, where artists like Louis Armstrong played.

In August, Deitchman paid $16.3 million for a two-thirds interest in the Kenann Building and the adjacent Chase Bank building. Chess, the seller, remained with one-third interest. Chess and Deitchman also teamed up to redevelop two former strip clubs in Oakland Park. [SFBJ] – Amanda Rabines
