South Florida shopping centers are bulking up with boutique fitness facilities like Orangetheory and Club Pilates, as they try to fill space amid the nationwide retail slump.
Orangetheory just inked a 10-year lease for ground-floor space at Integra Investments’ ArtSquare, a soon-to-be-completed, mixed-use development in Hallandale Beach.
The Boca Raton-based fitness franchise will open in a nearly 3,100-square-foot space at 413 North Federal Highway.
Since opening nearly eight years ago, Orangetheory has grown to include more than 730 studios in 45 states and 16 countries. In South Florida, Orangetheory has locations in the Miami Design District, Downtown Dadeland, Aventura, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Coral Gables and Coconut Creek.
Once complete, ArtSquare will feature 358 luxury rental units as well as retail and restaurant space. The development offers one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, according to a press release from Rivergate KW Residential. Amenities include a yoga studio, pool, cabanas, theater and laundry service.
Club Pilates is also stretching its legs, expanding into seven shopping centers and malls across South Florida.
The Comras Company’s Irma Figueroa represented the tenant. She said boutique fitness centers are expanding throughout the area, as the industry grows along with residents’ interest in health and wellness.
Each lease takes up about 1,500 square feet to 2,000 square feet.
The leases are at: Plantation Promenade, 10065 Cleary Boulevard in Plantation; RK Town Center, 17100 Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach; Midtown Doral, 7761 Northwest 107th Avenue in Doral; Kendall Market Square, 11784 Southwest 104th Street in Kendall; Sunrise West Plaza, 9240 West Commercial Boulevard in Sunrise; Cobblestone Plaza, 14804 and 14954 Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines and Brickell Bayview Terrace, 110 Southwest 9th Street in Brickell.
The California-based fitness franchise has spaces throughout the United States, and is looking to expand in markets like Weston, Davie, Cooper City, North Miami Beach, Hollywood, Hallandale, Surfside, and Aventura, according to a release.
