Nelson Gonzalez lists his own waterfront home in Miami Beach

How’s this for a house the listing agent can describe in painstaking detail?

EWM Realty International’s power broker Nelson Gonzalez has put his own waterfront Miami Beach home on the market for $8.45 million.

The nearly 6,000-square-foot home at 2515 Flamingo Drive has six bedrooms, five bathrooms and two half-baths. It sits on a more than 20,000-square-foot lot and has 95 feet of waterfront on Indian Creek Waterway’s Lake Pancoast, according to the listing.

The house was built in 1946, designed by famed architect Robert E. Collins, who also designed the Helen Mar Apartments and the Cameo Theatre in Miami Beach and the Tower Theater in Little Havana.

Gonzalez and his now-ex-wife Mariella paid $1.645 million for the house in 2004, records show. He said they completely gutted it and opened it up, spending nearly two years on the renovations. “We tried to make it into this really cool Art Deco beach house,” he said.

The gated home has a 17-foot-high domed living room, a covered veranda, pool, dock with a boatlift, guest house and landscaping by designer Harry Nelson.

Gonzalez said he is selling it now because his youngest twins are heading to college and his oldest son is already out of the house.

The home is near three pedestrian bridges that lead to Collins Avenue, “so you can be on the beach in two-and-a-half or three minutes, walking,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez ranked as the No. 3 top agent in Miami-Dade County, with sales of single-family homes topping $95.4 million in 2017, according to The Real Deal’s most recent ranking in March 2018.

Flamingo Drive has undergone somewhat of a transformation in recent years with new spec homes and renovated houses. Oren Alexander’s father, spec home developer Shlomy Alexander, completed 3541 Flamingo Drive in 2017, which is held by trusts in the names of his children. Spec home developer Todd Michael Glaser listed his family’s renovated house at 3681 Flamingo Drive for $8.95 million in August 2017, dropping the price to $7.4 million in October, according to Realtor.com.
