Co-working space for women adds co-playing space for their kids

The Wing, a co-working club for women, just opened a playroom space called The Little Wing where New York members can leave their children while they work.

Certified child minders, or “Wing-sitters,” supervise the playroom at The Wing’s location in New York City’s Soho area, just off Mercer Street.

The Little Wing, intended to distinguish The Wing from other co-working spaces, has such programmed events as art and music classes.

Led by Laetitia Gorra and Nicola Kehoe, the in-house interior design team at The Wing created the design of The Little Wing as a playful version of the style of the co-working space.

The decorative features of The Little Wing include soft pink and green colors and blue rugs. A little library divides the playroom into two areas with toys and furniture from Crate & Kids, a retailer of products for children. One area has chairs and circular tables, the other an informal mix of bean-bag chairs, small armchairs and a fluffy white rug.

In a corner of the playroom is a faux restaurant, La Café, where kids can pretend to serve food and beverages. The playroom also features a little stage with toy musical instruments.

Founded in 2016, The Wing opened its first location in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York before expanding to the city’s Dumbo and Soho areas. The Wing also has locations in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., with another planned in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood.

Other clubs with workspaces for women also have opened in the last several years, including The Riveter in Seattle, Make Lemonade in Toronto and AllBright in London. [Dezeen.com] – Mike Seemuth
