North Beach Yard is called off amid partnership split

Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales told commissioners that the founders had not complied with several terms of the lease

The music has stopped for North Beach Yard.

The entertainment and food venue that was supposed to replicate Wynwood Yard will not open, after Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales informed commissioners he is terminating the lease agreement, according to RE Miami Beach.

On June 6, Morales told commissioners that founders Della Heiman and Ken Lyon had not complied with several terms of the lease, including providing a security deposit. They also failed to provide proof of financing and a performance bond, which was due on November 20, 2018, according to RE Miami Beach.

Heiman and Lyon also missed a deadline in November to provide leases and financing information for container structures to be used on the site, according to Morales.

The Miami Herald further reported that founders Heiman and Lyon have split.

North Beach Yard, Miami Beach’s proposed version of the hip Wynwood Yard in Miami, planned to have up to two dozen food and beverage operators and 20 retailers, according to the plans submitted to the city. It was planned to open on a public lot at 81st Street and Collins Avenue.

Wynwood Yard was a popular hangout with live music and an array of food trucks. It closed earlier this year after Lennar Corp bought the site for $17 million, with plans to build an 11-story, 189-unit apartment building. [Miami Beach RE]Keith Larsen
