Firefighters responded to fire and reports of an explosion over the weekend at Related Group’s Casamar Pompano Beach sales gallery.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue was still at the scene of the fire at 911 North Ocean Boulevard Sunday morning, WPLG Local 10 first reported. A transformer near the sales gallery exploded, and high wind carried the embers over to the trailers on the property. There were no injuries and no other structures damaged. Firefighters reported seeing a blaze shooting high into the air as they were arriving at the scene, according to a spokesperson for the fire department.

“The trailers were a total loss,” Sandra King, strategic communications administrator for Pompano Beach, told The Real Deal. The fact that the flames were even able to reach the trailers made it “somewhat of a freak accident,” she said.

Witnesses first reported seeing smoke and hearing a loud explosion in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“I could see just this huge red flow of fire going up into the sky,” local resident Tina Moon told WPLG.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, according to a spokesperson for the city.

The site is the sales gallery for Related Group’s Casamar project, a planned 21-story, 118-unit oceanfront luxury condominium at 900 North Ocean Boulevard. Designed by Arquitectonica and the Rockwell Group, units start at $1.8 million. The Miami-based developer, led by Jorge Pérez and his sons Jon Paul and Nick Pérez, launched sales for the project in 2022. The firm landed a $158.9 million construction loan for the development in September.

The project is slated for completion in 2025.

In a statement, Related confirmed the fire, saying it “was caused by the malfunction of a utility-owned transformer and aided by high winds,” and that “the incident fortunately happened while the building was unoccupied” and no injuries were reported.

Related added that Casamar Pompano Beach is nearly sold out and the sales center will not be rebuilt.
