Celebrity real estate agent Fredrik Eklund is plotting his return to the small screen.
Eklund is working on a show focused on his business and team in Miami, Deadline reported. Eklund is the co-founder of top Douglas Elliman team Eklund | Gomes and former star of Million Dollar Listing New York, which ran from 2012 to 2021. He moved from Los Angeles to Miami last year, and has been ramping up his business in South Florida since.
Eklund is partnering with Evolution Media, a division of Amazon affiliate MGM Alternative and the production company behind shows like Vanderpump Rules and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the outlet reported.
In a March interview with The Real Deal, Eklund reflected on his time on Million Dollar Listing.
“When our show came out, it was kind of groundbreaking in the sense that [reality TV] wasn’t so saturated. I’m really grateful to have been part of that era,” he said.
The current landscape for reality shows, especially those focused on real estate, is much more saturated. Fellow Million Dollar Listing star Ryan Serhant now stars in the Netflix reality show Owning Manhattan, which was renewed for a second season after premiering this summer. HGTV premiered Zillow Gone Wild in May, a reality show inspired by the social media phenomenon of the same name. Last year Nest Seekers International agents starred in the BBC show Crazy Rich Agents: Selling Dream Homes.
Any discussion of real estate reality shows would be incomplete without a mention of Netflix’s Selling Sunset, despite its detractors within the real estate industry.
