Boca Raton HOA sues GL Homes over alleged construction defects at 504-unit single-family development

Complaint alleges Sunrise-based homebuilder is responsible for shoddy workmanship on common area facilities

GL Homes is facing allegations of shoddy construction work on common area facilities at a Boca Raton residential community .

The homeowners association for Boca Bridges, a 504-unit single-family home community completed last year, filed an amended complaint last month against Sunrise-based GL Homes and the project architect, Deerfield Beach-based Kamm Consulting. The project is at 17179 Ludovica Lane in Boca Raton.

In a statement, a GL Homes spokesperson said Boca Bridges HOA filed the lawsuit in order to comply with a new state law passed last year that shortened the statute of limitations for construction defects claims to be filed. 

“We have been and will continue working with the Boca Bridges HOA to resolve all issues without protracted litigation,” the statement said. “Based on our review of the claims and physical inspections of the beautiful Boca Bridges community, we anticipate that all issues will be resolved shortly and the litigation will be dismissed.”

Lawyers for the Boca Bridges HOA and Kamm Consulting did not respond to requests for comment. 

Boca Bridges is a mix of one-story and two-story modern homes with prices starting at roughly $3 million, an online listing shows. The HOA discovered the construction defects after GL Homes turned over the association in 2022, when a majority of the homes were completed, the lawsuit alleges. 

The HOA hired an engineering firm that produced a 100-plus page report documenting defects in the roofing, stucco, plumbing and flooring of the common area facilities. The defects allegedly include “incorrect or incomplete work, poor workmanship, or design errors.”

GL Homes, led by CEO Misha Ezratti, has built more than 10,000 homes in Palm Beach County since the firm was founded in 1974, according to published reports. In June, GL Homes dropped $23.5 million for 225 homesites in Avenir, a 4,800-acre master-planned community in Palm Beach Gardens.
