Sergio Busquets Selling Waterfront Fort Lauderdale House

Inter Miami’s Sergio Busquets is looking to sell his waterfront home near Fort Lauderdale for $9.8 million, just two years after buying the property.

Busquets, considered one of the best defensive midfielders in soccer, is retiring from Major League Soccer at the end of this year.

He and his wife, Elena Galera, paid about $8.7 million for the seven-bedroom, six-and-a-half bathroom house at 7 Seneca Road in the gated Sea Ranch Lakes community in 2023. That sale marked a record for Sea Ranch Lakes, a small town about 5 miles away from Inter Miami’s Fort Lauderdale stadium.

The 7,100-square-foot home, built in 2023, sits on a 0.3-acre lot with about 100 feet of frontage on Lake Seneca. The home includes a three-car garage. Veroushka Volkert of One Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing. She also brokered the previous sale.

ESPN reported in October that Busquets plans to take a break from soccer before he pursues coaching.

“I think in the future, yes [I’d want to be a coach], but for now I’d rather take a sabbatical,” Busquets told reporters. “It’s a long time, with hardly any weekends. … You want to enjoy time with your family, time for me, for them, seeing my children, being with them, traveling more, watching football from a different perspective.”

Busquets played for FC Barcelona from 2008 until he and Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami, the MLS team owned by brothers Jorge and Jose Mas, David Beckham and other investors.

Messi lives nearby. Also in 2023, he and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, paid $10.8 million for a 10,500-square-foot, eight-bedroom estate in Fort Lauderdale’s Bay Colony neighborhood. He also owns luxury condos in Sunny Isles Beach, including a unit at Porsche Design Tower, which was completed by Gil Dezer’s Dezer Development in late 2016.Inter Miami, which includes Ares Management, is moving quickly to complete a $1 billion mixed-use stadium development near Miami International Airport. Earlier this year, the partnership secured a $450 million loan from JPMorgan Chase for the project.
