Another New York transplant is heading to Miami. 4 Charles Prime Rib, one of the hardest reservations to score in the Big Apple, reportedly plans to open in Miami’s Design District.
The restaurant is expected to take over the former Swan space, at 90 Northeast 39th Street, according to the Miami New Times and the What’s Good Miami Substack. Swan was owned by hospitality mogul David Grutman and musician and producer Pharrell Williams.
The new location is targeting a 2026 opening. Owned by restaurateur Brendan Sodikoff, who built a restaurant empire that started in Chicago and includes Au Cheval, the steakhouse attracted a cult following after opening in Manhattan’s West Village in 2016.
4 Charles will join a group of New York and Chicago-based restaurants, hospitality brands and private members’ clubs that have expanded to South Florida since the pandemic, which include Major Food Group, H&H Bagels, Pastis and Rao’s.
In the Design District, New York transplants include Major Food Group’s Contessa and ZZ’s Club, and Cote Korean Steakhouse. Last year, chef Evan Funke opened Mother Wolf, which originated in Los Angeles, also in the Design District.
The high-end retail and dining neighborhood is the mastermind of developer Craig Robins. Robins’ Dacra teamed up with New York-based Brookfield Properties and Greenwich, Connecticut-based L Catterton, to transform the area. Anchor tenants include Louis Vuitton, Dior, Hermès, Gucci, Fendi, Chanel and Cartier.
Other property owners include Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega, who in September paid about $110 million for Atlas Plaza, which is home to a Rolex store and Michael’s Genuine, one of the Miami Design District’s longest-running restaurants.
