Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan follow ultra-wealthy flight to Florida

Deal for Indian Creek trophy manse said to be between $150M and $200M

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan with 2 Indian Creek Island Road

It looks like Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan are joining billionaire tech power couple Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez on Indian Creek Island.

The Meta CEO and his wife are in contract to buy 2 Indian Creek Island Road from Peter Cancro, the founder of Jersey Mike’s Subs, the Wall Street Journal reported. The deal is off-market and it is unclear whether brokers are involved.

The price will be between $150 million and $200 million, which could set a record for the most expensive single-family home sale in Miami-Dade County history. Cancro bought the 1.8-acre waterfront compound for $37 million in 2021, property records show. He recently completed the mansion on the property, and records have not yet been updated to reflect the square footage and scope of the home.

The couple are the latest in a wave of Silicon Valley titans acquiring South Florida homes.

Billionaires are fleeing California because a proposed 5 percent wealth tax on fortunes over $1 billion could hit them with a one‑time levy, prompting many to relocate before the Jan. 1 residency cutoff. With wealth estimated at $220 billion, that could cost Zuckerberg $11 billion. Florida’s lack of income tax is among the factors that makes it an attractive choice for residency.

Google co-founder Larry Page recently dropped $173 million on a pair of waterfront Coconut Grove estates. His co-founder Sergey Brin is reportedly home shopping in Miami Beach, and is buying the Allison Island home of LVMH Americas Chairman & CEO Michael Burke.

Still, Zuckerberg’s purchase is a surprise to some of Miami’s market insiders.

“This is one I’m actually shocked by,” said Dina Goldentayer. “I’ve never heard of him being in the marketplace.”

The Douglas Elliman agent is a top broker in Miami’s ultra-luxury market and a veteran of Indian Creek deals — her client roster there includes Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos.

She called Zuckerberg’s buy the “precise consequence” of California’s proposed wealth tax, and a major get for the Miami market.

“I think we need more actionable owners given the demand that is out there from our hungry California buyers,” she said.

Indian Creek has proven popular with ultra-luxury buyers in recent years. Known as “Billionaire’s Bunker,” it is a completely private island with its own municipal government and police force.

Bezos has shelled out $234 million on a trio of properties on the island. There has been speculation he was also the buyer of a fourth 1.8 acre estate for $105 million in June, which is adjacent to two of the lots he already owns.

Indian Creek sellers are looking to capitalize on the demand for the island’s homes with previously unheard of prices. Dr. Aaron Rollins, a cosmetic surgeon, and his wife, Marine Rollins, a real estate agent, have listed their incomplete waterfront mansion for $200 million.
