Billionaire Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan aren’t buying the newly completed Indian Creek Island estate of Jersey Mike’s founder Peter Cancro and his wife Tatiana Cancro, multiple Miami market insiders said. The couple may be buying somewhere else on the island, but sources could not confirm where.
The Wall Street Journal broke news of the purported contract for 2 Indian Creek Island Road Monday evening. The purchase was said to be costing the Facebook founder between $150 million and $200 million and indicated that the longtime Palo Alto residents were ducking the Golden State ahead of its proposed 5 percent wealth tax.
The Cancros are not selling their home, according to broker Rena Kliot, who represented them in the purchase of the property in 2021.
Zuckerberg’s possible purchase and relocation became the story of the week online and off. Many in the Miami real estate community touted it as proof of the Sunshine State’s ascendancy and California’s shortsighted policymaking.
Florida, and Miami in particular, has benefited from a significant wealth migration in recent years, including many tech billionaires. Jeff Bezos spent $234 million on a trio of properties on Indian Creek Island, famously dubbed “Billionaire’s Bunker.” There is speculation he bought a fourth 1.8 acre estate for $105 million in June.
More recently, Google co-founder Larry Page dropped $173 million on a pair of waterfront Coconut Grove estates, and his co-founder Sergey Brin is reportedly buying the Allison Island home of LVMH Americas Chairman & CEO Michael Burke.
Even if Zuckerberg and Chan aren’t buying 2 Indian Creek Road, they could be picking up another home on the private island, sources said.
There is only one Indian Creek estate currently on the Multiple Listing Service, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Aaron Rollins’ spec mansion at 7 Indian Creek Island Road asking $200 million. Rollins’ wife Marine Rollins, a real estate agent, did not respond to a request for comment about whether her home was the one that sold.
But many of the largest deals happen off-market.
“There are several owners who have been quoting me these ‘make-me-move’ prices, ranging from $175 million on the lower end to upwards of $275 million,” Joel Lusky of the Brokerage South Florida said.
Sources say football superstar Tom Brady’s newly completed estate at 26 Indian Creek Island Road is quietly for sale in that price range.
