Related Ross got the greenlight to build seven stories high on former farmland in Wellington.
Billionaire Steve Ross’ firm received approval from the Wellington Village Council to build an 86-foot-tall extended stay hotel, a 47-foot-tall lakeside restaurant facility, and a pair of 42-foot-tall commercial buildings at 10400 Stribling Way, Tuesday night.
Village officials already rezoned the former farmland for up to 210,000 square feet of retail, 105,000 square feet of restaurant space, a 180-room hotel, 75,000 square feet of office and 215 residential units as well as a 405,000-square-foot private school called Wingrove Academy for 1,750 students. However, Wellington requires a conditional use height permit for most new buildings taller than 35 feet.

The tallest building is a seven-story 175,000-square-foot hotel. A 22,500-square-foot, two-level restaurant building will have balconies and outdoor seating.
Just east of the hotel, a pair of three-story buildings with office, retail and restaurant uses totaling 68,400 square feet will be connected by a bridge on the second and third stories, a village report stated.
The rest of the buildings will be one or two stories tall. The private school, which will be run by West Palm Beach-based ElevateEd, is slated for completion by 2028.
Wellington, about 16 miles west of Palm Beach and famous for its polo fields and horse ranches, is a frontier for development in South Florida.
In August, Wellington officials approved developer Mark Bellissimo’s plans to build Marketplace at Wellington, an 18-acre development that includes 89 condos, an 80-room hotel and 117,000 square feet of commercial space.
Scottsdale, Arizona-based Meritage Homes in January proposed building 206 townhomes on rural land recently annexed by Wellington.
