Max Scherzer, the Major League Baseball pitcher known to fans as Mad Max, sold an unfinished mansion in Jupiter’s gated Admirals Cove neighborhood for $23 million.
Records show Scherzer and his wife, Erica, sold the property at 217 Commodore Drive to Thomas and Kimberly Abrams of Northville, Michigan. Holly Meyer Lucas, Kimberly Thomson and Courtney Payne with Compass had the listing, and Rob Thomson with Waterfront Properties and Club Communities brought the buyer.
Scherzer helped take the Toronto Blue Jays to the World Series last year. The two-time Series champion made his league debut in 2008 and had long stints with the Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals.
He and his wife bought the Commodore Drive property for $14.9 million in 2023. The 0.7-acre lot has 300 feet of waterfront, and the home will span nearly 10,000 square feet when completed, records and the listing show. With the construction contract included, the deal totals $35 million, according to the listing. It hit the market asking $36 million in February.
It is across the street from the waterfront mansion they bought for $9.8 million in 2020, which is their primary residence, according to property records.
The couple decided to sell after touring Discovery Land Company’s planned Atlantic Fields community in Hobe Sound.
The buyers also own a non-waterfront home in Admirals Cove. Records show they bought the house at 115 Victory Drive for $3.9 million in 2021. Thomas Abrams heads Reliable Carriers, the Canton, Michigan-based speciality car carrier giant. It specializes in delivering luxury vehicles to buyers, relocations, car shows and film shoots.
Admirals Cove is one of the Jupiter gated communities coveted by luxury buyers. In 2024, seed magnate Ronald Holden and his wife, Arlene, sold their 1.1-acre waterfront estate for a record $34 million to hedge funder David Goel.
