The Pueblo-style estate built by Glenn Curtiss, the noted pilot who
effectively invented U.S. naval aviation and developed Hialeah,
Opa-Locka and Miami Springs, is being restored to its former glory
after years of neglect and misfortune. The home, at 500 Deer Run in
Miami Springs was built by Martin Luther Hampton. Earlier parts of the
restoration were financed by a $1 million county bond issue, along with
a $1 million financing from the state, and helped build a new roof and
improve the shell of the home. The restoration, led by architect
Richard Heisenbottle, relied on old photographs. [Miami Herald]
