Construction executives appealed to Florida lawmakers to support further investment in restoration work in the Everglades yesterday, at an event hosted by the Everglades Foundation. The contractors, including Wendy Cyriacks, president of Deerfield Beach-based Cyriacks Environmental Consulting Services, and Juan Vazquez, vice president of RJ Behar in Pembroke Pines, called upon Gov. Rick Scott, Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos and House Speaker Dean Cannon to fund more projects, promising that such moves would help jumpstart the economy. Earlier this month, some 250 contracting firm representatives convened for a preliminary U.S. Army Corps of Engineers meeting on a proposed Everglades project for which the construction contract is expected to be around $20 million.
