New poll shows casino support, but gaming bill stalled for now

Approximately 57 percent of Miami-Dade County voters support the Genting casino resort project, according to a poll to be released today by Floridians for Jobs and Prosperity, the Miami Herald reported. But the poll won’t mean much for now, following the decision by State Rep. Erik Fresen to withdraw the bill today, saying it would not get the appropriate opportunity for debate. Genting is one of the funders of the group, according to the Herald. The Malaysian firm, which purchased the headquarters of the Miami Herald for $236 million in May 2011, says the project could add 19,000 jobs in the area. The poll was conducted by Arlington, Va.-based Frederick Polls, which talked to 500 like Miami-Dade voters. [Miami Herald] and [SFBJ]
